Add onions; saut\u00e9 until tender (5 minutes). Add sugar, salt, curry powder, turmeric, cayenne pepper, and canned tomatoes. Cook until mixture thickens slightly (7 minutes). Stir in chickpeas, garam masala, and frozen peas. Cook until peas cook through (8 minutes). Remove from heat. Stir in cilantro.
