At preschool, look at what is in each interest area for children to use and listen to what they talk about with one another and with teachers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: black; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><strong><span style=\"color: black; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">The Environment<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: black; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Here are some examples of what you might see in different interest areas:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"color: black; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"color: black; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Block area:<\/strong> Blocks organized by shape on the shelves, with labels for each shape and for props.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00c2\u00a0<strong>House corner:<\/strong> Dress-up clothes, props, pots and pans, and cooking utensils on shelves or hung with picture labels, so children can sort and put things away systematically; sufficient forks, knives, spoons, and plates for setting the table.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Table toys:<\/strong> Games, manipulatives, puzzles, and collectibles that children can use to count, sort, build, or otherwise organize at a table or on the floor.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Cooking activities:<\/strong> Measuring spoons, cups, and bowls to use in preparing food.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Library:<\/strong> Books about numbers and shapes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Art area:<\/strong> Materials to make designs with different shapes, colors, and objects.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Sand and water tables:<\/strong> Different-sized containers and measuring tools.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Computers:<\/strong> Software that stimulates children to explore making shapes of different sizes, create designs, and repeat designs made first with real materials (mirroring).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"color: black; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"color: black; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">In addition to what you see in interest areas, many daily classroom activities can have a math focus. What are some ways they are alike?
