There are words that end with the “v” sound (example:\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>dove and love), but there aren’t really any that end in the letter v.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The letter V is an extremely reliable letter.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It only makes the vvvv sound as in van.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>This makes it an easy letter to teach. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Present a capital and lower case V to your child.\u00c2\u00a0 See if she knows the name of the letter and the sound it makes.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/span>Give examples of V words, such as violin, vase, and van.\u00c2\u00a0 See if she can think of any other words that start with V.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2. Read <\/span>The Velveteen Rabbit<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a> or <\/span>Growing Vegetable Soup<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Go on a scavenger hunt around the house to find items that start with V for the V bag this week.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>You might find a van, velvet, vase, vanilla, Velcro, vitamins, violin, vest, visor, vegetables, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Pull out an object each day and ask if your child knows anything about it.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Create a list of the items, displayed where it can be seen.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Create a V collage.\u00c2\u00a0 Have your child search through magazines for V words, and glue them to paper for his alphabet book.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span>Vine-y V\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Provide a cut out V taped to waxed paper for easier handling and cleanup, green construction paper and markers.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Show your child pictures of vines.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Show them how to draw a curly vine on the V, and then encourage them to cut out leaf shapes and glue those to the vine. When dry, glue to 8\u00c2\u00bd x 11\u00e2\u20ac\u009d paper and place in alphabet book.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Alternatively you can pre cut leaf shapes, or sponge paint the leaves on, if your child cannot handle scissors well yet.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Provide a worksheet with a line of V\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s to trace across the top and a blank spot below, a van pattern, markers, stickers and glue.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Glue van to paper, and encourage your child to decorate with stickers and markers.<\/span><\/p>\n

7. Other activities: \u00c2\u00a0<\/span>Have vegetables and dip; talk about Velcro and how it works; make vanilla pudding; talk about Voting; Paint vases; make vegetable prints; listen to violin music; make a science fair volcano; talk about <\/span>vultures<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a>; <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
