The Letter T is a very unreliable letter that often makes sounds other than the base \/t\/ sound: <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\/t\/ as in t<\/span><\/span><\/strong>urnip<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>soft \/th\/ as in t<\/span><\/span><\/strong>hing or hard \/th\/ as in t<\/span><\/span><\/strong>he<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Present a capital and lower case T to your child.\u00c2\u00a0 See if she knows the name of the letter and the sound it makes.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Give examples of T words, such as today, teeth, and ten.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Go on a scavenger hunt around the house to find items that start with T for the T bag this week.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>You might find a train, telephone, toaster, toothbrush, truck, triangle, table, tiger, turtle, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Pull out an object each day and ask if your child knows anything about it.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Create a list of the items, displayed where it can be seen.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Create an T collage.\u00c2\u00a0 Have your child search through magazines for T words, and glue them to paper for his alphabet book.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

5. \u00c2\u00a0<\/span>Toothpick T\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Provide a T cut out from construction paper, a box of toothpicks, and a small cup of glue.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Show your child how to dip the toothpick in the glue, and then place it on the T to decorate.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>When dry, glue to an 8\u00c2\u00bd x 11\u00e2\u20ac\u009d piece of paper for their alphabet book.<\/span><\/p>\n

Provide a worksheet with a line of T\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s to trace across the top and a blank spot below, googly eyes, glue, \u00c2\u00a0<\/span>turtle pieces (use teal paper!), markers, and extra bits of colorful paper.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Encourage your child to decorate the turtle shell, and then show him how to glue the head, legs, tail and shell to the page.<\/span>\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

7. Other activities: \u00c2\u00a0<\/span>play tic tac toe; make triangle collages; talk about trees; make a tent to play in; take apart a broken telephone to see the insides; count to ten; taste different herbal teas and rate them in order of preference; have a teddy bear picnic<\/span><\/p>\n
