When snow lies on the hills,<\/span><\/p>\n

When frost has spoiled their mossy beds,<\/span><\/p>\n

And crystallized their rills?<\/span><\/p>\n

Beneath the moon they can not trip<\/span><\/p>\n

In circles o’er the plain;<\/span><\/p>\n

And draughts of dew they cannot sip,<\/span><\/p>\n

Till green leaves come again.<\/span><\/p>\n

Perhaps in small blue diving bells,<\/span><\/p>\n

They plunge beneath the waves,<\/span><\/p>\n

Inhabiting the twisted shells<\/span><\/p>\n

That lie in coral caves.<\/span><\/p>\n

Perhaps in red Vesuvius,<\/span><\/p>\n

Carousals they maintain;<\/span><\/p>\n

And cheer their drooping spirits thus,<\/span><\/p>\n

When they return there will be mirth,<\/span><\/p>\n

And music in the air,<\/span><\/p>\n

And fairy wings upon the earth,<\/span><\/p>\n

The maids, to keep the elves aloof,<\/span><\/p>\n
