{"id":370,"date":"2016-12-11T12:11:15","date_gmt":"2016-12-11T19:11:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/?p=370"},"modified":"2016-12-11T12:11:34","modified_gmt":"2016-12-11T19:11:34","slug":"holiday-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/?p=370","title":{"rendered":"Holiday Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-371 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/a980b86e5fdd1913e92666a7ae242ea4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Keeping busy as the holiday season crawls along towards Christmas.\u00c2\u00a0 Have holiday baking to do, presents to wrap (last minute thing around here since we still have a Santa believer), but for the\u00c2\u00a0most part, I am prepared for Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>We got a couple days of snow, meaning a couple snow days off school for the kids.\u00c2\u00a0 Snow is not the norm here, so people aren&#8217;t really prepared, no one knows how to drive in it (myself included, I can&#8217;t lie!), and pretty much the city shuts down.\u00c2\u00a0 Even if they manage to get the main streets clear and things moving, we are stuck, because we live at the top of a series of steep hills.\u00c2\u00a0 If you make it to the bottom of the first, and try to move out into the bigger world, you get to a junction with a hill going up left and a hill going up right.\u00c2\u00a0 Getting home is a big challenge, even if you make it out.<\/p>\n<p>Besides, we live in the boonies version of suburbia, pockets of homes surrounded by protected wilderness.\u00c2\u00a0 So the road deicers never make it this far.<\/p>\n<p>I still haven&#8217;t received my water barrel storage unit ordered on 10\/28.\u00c2\u00a0 Part of me worries that I am getting scammed.\u00c2\u00a0 But I did email at the end of November\u00c2\u00a0and got a quick response that they are waiting on material from their fabricators, which\u00c2\u00a0if the email was accurate they would have received\u00c2\u00a0the first week of December.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The website says &#8220;Turn around time is typically 3 weeks. \u00c2\u00a0 So the sooner you place your order\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6the sooner it will be ready but there is a lead time for the fabricators to make everything.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 All I can do is hope\u00c2\u00a0I am not getting strung along so that it will be too late to register a complaint with my credit card company.\u00c2\u00a0 My gut tells me that they are just a <a href=\"http:\/\/groundzero3.com\/\">small company<\/a> (or even just &#8220;a guy&#8221;) and since they have to outsource everything, I just need to be patient, and eventually they will come through.\u00c2\u00a0I was &#8220;order 204&#8221; not 14,204 or 183, 204.\u00c2\u00a0 So, I am practicing patience.\u00c2\u00a0 And hoping I am not an idiot.<\/p>\n<p>However, I haven&#8217;t wanted to fill up my water barrels, only to have to empty them\u00c2\u00a0to rack them, so I feel a little vulnerable.\u00c2\u00a0 On the other hand, its winter and\u00c2\u00a0we get precipitation fairly constantly.\u00c2\u00a0 If\u00c2\u00a0the SHTF and I didn&#8217;t\u00c2\u00a0have to worry about legally collecting rainwater (only collecting roof runoff is legal here), then I could put out the kiddie pools and buckets and tarp collectors and have plenty of liquid to run through the berkey.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keeping busy as the holiday season crawls along towards Christmas.\u00c2\u00a0 Have holiday baking to do, presents to wrap (last minute thing around here since we still have a Santa believer), but for the\u00c2\u00a0most part, I am prepared for Christmas.
