Self-Reflection \/ Mental Preparedness<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For me this is getting my head on straight.\u00c2\u00a0 Am I approaching this journey in a logical, non-hysterical, non-tinfoil hat kinda way?\u00c2\u00a0 Am I going to be able to remain calm and implement my plans, especially if the\u00c2\u00a0S does\u00c2\u00a0HTF? Fitness<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While tied to health, it isn&#8217;t entirely the same thing.\u00c2\u00a0 I need to get myself in enough shape to handle the chores and responsibilities of life in post-emergency world, no matter how short or long it might be.\u00c2\u00a0 If I needed to leave my home on foot, could I make it to a place I consider safe?<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Debt Freedom \/ Frugality<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I mentioned in a previous post that I thought some of my concerns may be coming from the fact that I feel the least financially stable that I have in a long time.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m carrying too much credit card debt and struggling to stick to my budget given some additional expenses.\u00c2\u00a0 There are a lot of things that I can do to alleviate some of this.\u00c2\u00a0 Pantry organization and meal planning will help here as well as being smart and making space for more storage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/frugal.bmp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-130\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/frugal.bmp\" alt=\"frugal\" width=\"589\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/frugal.bmp 589w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/frugal-300x244.bmp 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 589px) 100vw, 589px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Cultivating a Community<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My family isn&#8217;t very supportive.\u00c2\u00a0 They are being a bit tolerant, but I know they think I am crazy, and are humoring me as long as what I am doing to prepare doesn&#8217;t cause them inconvenience or cost my family money.\u00c2\u00a0 Mom is helping with some organization.\u00c2\u00a0 She&#8217;s being a good resource for getting my raised beds ready for some garden experiments next Spring.\u00c2\u00a0 But she also has mentioned maybe I need an appointment with a therapist.\u00c2\u00a0 So.<\/p>\n<p>It would be good to have other people to talk about preparedness and homesteading.\u00c2\u00a0 Folks that can help me find resources to prepare, who can teach me skills, or at least help me find where I can learn those skills.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve looked into forums and meetups for like-minded individuals in my area.\u00c2\u00a0 Nothing very active, but I&#8217;ve put a few postings out there.\u00c2\u00a0 There is some kind of preparedness expo in this area soon.\u00c2\u00a0 As much as I don&#8217;t like to put myself out there like that &#8212; I think I will.\u00c2\u00a0 If I can swing it, I&#8217;d like to take an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nicoleapelian.com\/blog\/herbal-medicine-salve-making-class-saturday-1029\/\">herbal remedy and salve making class<\/a> from Nicole (from the second season of Alone, if you&#8217;ve seen that) and perhaps make a connection there.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve looked into CERT training.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-134\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/prepper-group-1024x625.jpg\" alt=\"prepper-group\" width=\"660\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/prepper-group-1024x625.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/prepper-group-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/prepper-group-768x469.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/prepper-group-619x378.jpg 619w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/journal\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/prepper-group.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Skills \/ Training<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some of that above meets these needs too.\u00c2\u00a0 I can potentially meet people that make up the preparedness \/ homesteading community in the area, but also learn some good skills.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m also planning on some gardening next spring.\u00c2\u00a0 I have 3 raised beds, maybe 75 square feet? all told.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not enough to feed my family exclusively by any means, but I think I can do enough to learn HOW to garden.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe grow enough to do some canning.\u00c2\u00a0 I plan to learn vermiculture to support the garden, and done a bit of research in how to build a worm farm.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve also picked up some supplies to practice sprouting and growing microgreens (that&#8217;s a whole post alone!).\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s a LOT more skills out there, but these are the ones I am adding to my plate right now.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Second on the main list for getting prepared to be prepared was &#8220;Self&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 This I Broke down into Self-Reflection \/ Mental Preparedness Health Fitness Debt Freedom \/ Frugality Cultivating a Community Skills \/ Training 1.
