font-size: small;\">Daisy Martinez<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">.\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/fw200511_daisymartinez.jpg\"><\/a> Although fairly new to food network, she also has a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.daisycooks.com\/pages\/main.cfm\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">PBS show<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">, and her own website.\u00c2\u00a0 Her own <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/boriquablog.wordpress.com\/category\/recipesrecetas\/\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">personal site<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\"> had a lot more recipe choices than the Food Network listing.\u00c2\u00a0Still, I ended up choosing my recipe from a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/articles\/daisys-latin-world-daisy-martinez\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">Food and Wine Magazine <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">article.\u00c2\u00a0 For some reason, several there spoke to me, which didn&#8217;t happen looking on food networks site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">I narrowed it down to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/recipes\/salmon-fillets-with-leek-fondue\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">Salmon Fillets with Leek Fondue<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0(hubby would like this, but its not at all Latin, and since that is what she is known for, I really wanted something with those flavors), <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/recipes\/peruvian-beef-and-noodle-stew\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">Peruvian Beef and Noodle Stew<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0(I thought this sounded the best, but knew the boys wouldn&#8217;t like the big chunks of peppers and things, and the one I finally chose: <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodandwine.com\/recipes\/hearty-braised-chicken-legs\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">Hearty Braised Chicken Legs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">I made a couple of small changes.\u00c2\u00a0 First I used thighs only instead of whole leg quarters, because they were on sale and I&#8217;m not a big drumstick fan anyway.\u00c2\u00a0 Second, I used sliced baby bella mushrooms because I just wrote &#8220;mushrooms&#8221; on my shopping list and didn&#8217;t realize that I needed them whole in order to quarter them.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think either substitution made a substantial difference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: center\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; Season the chicken with salt and pepper and add to the skillet, skin side down. FONT-SIZE: 11pt\">I thought it was delicious.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The sauce on the rice was so good!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I would use it as pasta sauce, over grits, on any meat.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>YUM!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t think you could make it without the chicken though, as the rendered chicken skin fat is used to cook the mushrooms, and there is a subtle (but definitely there) meaty chicken flavor throughout the sauce.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt\">The kidlet is still refusing to eat meat of any kind, and didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to brave the sauce on his rice.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Picky DH wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t admit that he\u00c2\u00a0liked it\u00c2\u00a0(he objects to new recipes by rote\u00c2\u00a0I think =p), but since he went back for seconds, I think even he found the flavor appealing.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>He didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t use much sauce, but then he never does.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>He doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t dress salads or use gravies or anything.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 13.8pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 13.8pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt\">It took a little longer than 15 minutes t be cooked through (I use a meat thermometer to check for chicken doneness), but not ridiculously so, about 5 extra minutes is all.\u00c2\u00a0 As you would expect, the chicken skin after braising is quite slimy and mushy and no longer crisp as it was after browning.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like that texture so I removed it before eating, but I wouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t recommend cooking the recipe without the skin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 13.8pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"LINE-HEIGHT: 13.8pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; FONT-SIZE: 11pt\">All in all a very economical (especially if you find chicken on a good sale as I did) and very tasty.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;
