{"id":838,"date":"2009-11-04T08:37:22","date_gmt":"2009-11-04T15:37:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=838"},"modified":"2009-11-04T19:10:57","modified_gmt":"2009-11-05T02:10:57","slug":"fnccc-claire-robinson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=838","title":{"rendered":"FNCCC &#8211; Claire Robinson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/iblamemom.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/FN%20chefs%20cooking%20challenge\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"fnccc\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/fnccc.jpg\" alt=\"fnccc\" width=\"156\" height=\"105\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">This week&#8217;s Food Network Chef&#8217;s Cooking Challenge features Cl<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/claire-robinson\/bio\/index.html\">aire Robinson<\/a>.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>This is one of the rare weekend only shows (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/5-ingredient-fix\/index.html\">5 Ingredient Fix<\/a>) that I have actually seen a few times.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>When it first premiered I watched several episodes.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I like her; seems very warm and approachable, and her recipes are very easy (with only 5 ingredients + salt, pepper and oil, how could they be tough, right? ;)).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Her food always looks so inviting (at least in the episodes I watched). Honestly, there were several times that I wanted to jump up, buy the ingredients and start cooking before she could even finish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">I will say that *most* of her recipes that I have seen are basic recipes, and really directed at a novice cook.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Her creamed spinach for instance is (shock) spinach and cream.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">Bonus Review!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">I have made her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/claire-robinson\/sunday-roast-beef-and-gravy-recipe\/index.html\">Sunday Roast Beef and Gravy<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/claire-robinson\/thyme-for-yorkshire-pudding-recipe\/index.html\">Thyme for Yorkshire Puddings <\/a>twice before.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>The roast is not budget friendly; for us at least it&#8217;s a special occasion cut of meat<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>(we had it for Easter and for my birthday).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>But it came out PERFECTLY with her directions.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Perfectly pink, tender and soooooo good, which is why we had it again on my birthday.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I requested that for my meal, as I had only been home from the hospital a few days, recovering from the c-section, and mom was there to cook, as there was no way we were going out \ud83d\ude09<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I&#8217;d never had Yorkshire puddings before I made them on Easter, so having a basic recipe was good.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>They are like eggy popovers and with a little gravy drizzled over them, I thought they were fantastic.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>However, I was not thrilled with the gravy that is listed with the roast.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Because it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s part of the roast recipe, she didn&#8217;t have many ingredients left for gravy I guess. <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span>In order to get it thick enough to really BE gravy and not a pan sauce, it would have to reduce a very long time. <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span>The second time we had it my mom just made a basic beef gravy, which was heavenly on the puddings.\u00c2\u00a0 The only other note is &#8212; read the Yorkshire pudding recipe all the way through well before you want to cook.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s got some resting time, and uses fat from the roast, so you want to plan for those things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">Anyway, on to the current review!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">So far, \u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;ve always\u00c2\u00a0picked a main dish to review.\u00c2\u00a0 Not this week.\u00c2\u00a0 I love Brussels Sprouts.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never met one that I didn&#8217;t like.\u00c2\u00a0 Fresh, frozen.\u00c2\u00a0 Cooked crisp tender or boiled until its limp as a wet noodle &#8212; I just love them.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never imagined them with apples.\u00c2\u00a0 Even more confusing is having them with *raw* apples. So I just had to try this one.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 9.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Crispy Brussels Sprouts<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 9.5pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">4 ounces thick slab applewood smoked bacon, cut in 1\/4-inch pieces <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">1 pound Brussels sprouts, washed, trimmed, and halved lengthwise <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">1\/4 cup toasted chopped walnuts <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, and sliced <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\">Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In a sheet pan, lay out bacon slices. Bake for 10 minutes, until lightly browned and the fat has rendered. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon, and transfer to a paper towel lined plate. Carefully toss Brussels sprouts in the hot pan, and season with salt and pepper. Return the pan to the oven, and roast, turning once, until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Remove from the oven, [add] the walnuts and apples and toss to combine. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper.
