{"id":2636,"date":"2013-04-27T21:21:27","date_gmt":"2013-04-28T04:21:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=2636"},"modified":"2013-04-29T07:47:56","modified_gmt":"2013-04-29T14:47:56","slug":"little-miss-perfect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=2636","title":{"rendered":"Little Miss Perfect?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Little LE is exactly one month away from turning 4.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 I am convinced that she is gifted.\u00c2\u00a0 In its own way, its as challenging raising my little LE as it is raising a child with Asperger&#8217;s.\u00c2\u00a0 Right now, I am faced with the challenge of perfectionism.\u00c2\u00a0 Her brain processing power is ahead of her fine motor skills.\u00c2\u00a0 She knows the way she wants something to look, the way it &#8220;should&#8221; look.\u00c2\u00a0 When she is unable to match it in reality, she gets very upset.\u00c2\u00a0 Temper tantrum, scribbling all over her art \/ note, crying upset. She is heart-breakingly hard on herself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/033.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2637\" alt=\"033\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/033-768x1024.jpg\" width=\"461\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/033-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/033-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 461px) 100vw, 461px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Moments after drawing this person, she drew a big X from corner to corner to corner because &#8220;her stripes and dot dress is wrong&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0At her age, the &#8220;average&#8221; kid is still making &#8220;tadpoles&#8221;, with legs sprouting from the head.\u00c2\u00a0 The emergence of a torso is a 5-6 year old skill, with making the trunk longer than it is wide an even later milestone.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m just amazed at her precocious ability (she scores around 6 years, 3 months on the Goodenough Draw a Person Test), and she is freaking out and destroying it because its &#8220;wrong&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It does no good to tell her that it is all right, or that it is perfect just the way it is.\u00c2\u00a0 She *knows* it isn&#8217;t (in her mind), and she just gets more upset.\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0We&#8217;ve read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Beautiful-Oops-Barney-Saltzberg\/dp\/076115728X\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1367207685&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=Oops\">Beautiful Oops<\/a> more than a few times.\u00c2\u00a0 In moments of calm &#8220;rationality&#8221;, we&#8217;ll talk about art, and how there really are no mistakes in art.\u00c2\u00a0 How she is only three and she is still learning to use her hands, and it&#8217;s ok if the 2 points of a &#8220;w&#8221; don&#8217;t line up exactly right now (or whatever).
