{"id":1652,"date":"2010-09-12T06:19:18","date_gmt":"2010-09-12T13:19:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=1652"},"modified":"2010-09-13T11:14:59","modified_gmt":"2010-09-13T18:14:59","slug":"totschool-96-91210-body-parts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=1652","title":{"rendered":"Totschool 9\/6 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 9\/12\/10 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Body Parts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I should mention that while I pick a theme for the week, that doesn&#8217;t mean we aren&#8217;t talking about that topic at other times.\u00c2\u00a0 I just like having a theme to help me pick the toys and activities for the week.\u00c2\u00a0 We won&#8217;t suddenly stop trying to teach Baby L about her body parts once the end of the week arrives ;)\u00c2\u00a0 I picked this theme because we were looking a First Words book and when we turned to the &#8220;My body&#8221; page she reached up and grabbed her hair, which is the first word on the page.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On a completely unrelated note, I think Baby L needs a new web name; she isn&#8217;t a baby really anymore, although she&#8217;ll always be my baby ;)\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ll have to think on it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Baby L is 15.5 months\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.1plus1plus1equals1.com\/TotSchool.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i131.photobucket.com\/albums\/p316\/carisahinson\/Tot-School.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Tot School\" \/><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Baby L\u00c2\u00a0is in\u00c2\u00a0a stage where she wants to know &#8220;what&#8217;s that?&#8221; (except she only points), and I was looking for ways other than books to show her body parts.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0I made up our tot baskets based on that, more than picking something she would choose to play with if she were picking something to play with on her own.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">The majority of our tot school time was spent in song and fingerplays that talk about body parts, rather than focused on the tot baskets (I think we watched on DVD and performed &#8220;clap your hands&#8221; by they might giants about 500 times).\u00c2\u00a0 We did them in front of mirrors.\u00c2\u00a0 We did them using stickers, adhering one to whichever body part we were <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atozkidsstuff.com\/tbody.html\">chanting<\/a> about. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">First we read &#8220;Doctor for a Day&#8221; and then got out the basket.\u00c2\u00a0 While playing with the doll (she doesn&#8217;t have a ton of interest in them yet,\u00c2\u00a0but we have one that Grandma S gave us when Kidlet was learning to potty that came with a little potty chair), I&#8217;d say &#8220;Uh oh, baby\u00c2\u00a0has a boo-boo!\u00c2\u00a0 Where does she hurt?!&#8221; and wherever Baby L would touch, I&#8217;d stick a band-aid on and say &#8220;She has a boo-boo on her {insert body part here}&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">Vocabulary: Names of body parts, boo-boo, band-aid<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">&#8211; and they were 3-D pieces she could pick up instead of just a flat picture.\u00c2\u00a0 As she picked up a piece,\u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;d name the part and give a small fact like &#8220;That&#8217;s the eyes.\u00c2\u00a0 We see with our eyes.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">.\u00c2\u00a0 Obviously there was no expectation that Baby L would be *assembling* the puzzles.\u00c2\u00a0 As with Mr. Potato Head, I was naming whatever she picked up and tried to give a small fact about that part.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">&#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">Tot Basket:\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/LILLIAN-VERNON-Plush-Beehive-Counting\/dp\/B003AO8JFG\">Counting Bees and Bee Hive<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(no longer sold).\u00c2\u00a0 This is a toy I bought some years back from Lillian Vernon for Kidlet.\u00c2\u00a0 I was amazed to discover that I was able to find all 10 bees (all over the house!)since Kidlet hasn&#8217;t played with it in ages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; and tap the card, and then say it again and tap her mouth.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I would ask her to find the hand, or ear or whatever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">She was sitting in my lap while we did this, so no pictures with her.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; from <a href=\"http:\/\/todayisfun.com\/blog\/\">Today Is Fun!<\/a>, but as of yet, it&#8217;s too advanced for her.\u00c2\u00a0 Kidlet enjoyed them ;)\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri;
