Garden<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool82.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1643\" title=\"totschool8\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool82.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool82.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool82-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">She really liked stacking these.\u00c2\u00a0 They are nice and fat and easy to hold and were fairly easy for her to get into place.\u00c2\u00a0 No, she didn&#8217;t stack them in the correct order.\u00c2\u00a0 She&#8217;s 15 months, not 30!\u00c2\u00a0 She then lined them up in a row unstacked and I called out a number as she put each one down.\u00c2\u00a0 Then she started touching them randomly out of order and I would call the number of the position it was in.\u00c2\u00a0 She caught on pretty quickly that I was responding to her action and got quite a kick out of making mommy say &#8220;one, one, one, one, one&#8221; over and over ;)\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Vocabulary: stack, top, rounded, smooth, numbers 1-6\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>-\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tot Basket:\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Melissa-Doug-10-Piece-Magnetic-Catching\/dp\/B000LFUKCM\/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=toys-and-games&amp;qid=1283052665&amp;sr=8-2\">Magnetic Bug Catching Game <\/a>(this is just like the fishing game, only its bugs.\u00c2\u00a0 The fishing game is a smarter buy.\u00c2\u00a0 The magnet hanging from a line attached to a wooden net handle makes far less sense than a magnet attached to a line attached to a fishing pole!).\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool44.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1614\" title=\"totschool4\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool44.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool44.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool44-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>She played with it for a while, and while she couldn&#8217;t really control the magnet, she started using this trolling technique, dragging the magnet across the board until it caught something<\/p>\n<p>Vocabulary:\u00c2\u00a0net, bug, specific bug names, magnet, catch, lift, metal<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Tot Basket: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Alex-Toys-805-Tub-Garden\/dp\/B0009S5U3K\/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&amp;s=toys-and-games&amp;qid=1282958855&amp;sr=1-19\">Tub Garden<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 These are thick foam pieces that are meant to be used in the bath tub.\u00c2\u00a0 You get them wet and then they stick to the side of a shower door or whatever.\u00c2\u00a0 We just used them dry and played mix and match.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool92.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1644\" title=\"totschool9\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool92.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool92.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool92-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After a bit of just playing together with them, I lined up some of the stems and piled up the blossoms to see if she was &#8220;getting&#8221; it and would put the flowers together.<\/p>\n<p>Vocabulary: flower, bug, stem, leaf, blossom, grass\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Collage.\u00c2\u00a0 I cut out some grassy knolls, stems, leaves,\u00c2\u00a0clouds and flower shapes for a contact paper collage (in a cardstock frame for support).\u00c2\u00a0I used the template from <a href=\"http:\/\/wondertime.go.com\/create-and-play\/article\/felt-garden-printables.html\">Wondertime&#8217;s Felt Garden<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0for some of the pieces; others I just cut out free hand (from scrapbook papers).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool14.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1611\" title=\"totschool1\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool14.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"91\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool14.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool14-300x73.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At first I gave her the pieces in order, like the grassy bits first and then some stems, knowing that she would put them on closest to her first, then further away once the closest parts had something on it so the grass would be on the bottom, then the stems above that, etc).\u00c2\u00a0 But she kept grabbing the little plastic sleeve with all the cut outs in it, and got\u00c2\u00a0frustrated that she couldn&#8217;t figure out how to open it up to get at the shapes, so I just dumped them out and let her put things where she liked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool24.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1612  aligncenter\" title=\"totschool2\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool24.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"329\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool24.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool24-300x268.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It didn&#8217;t come out looking badly at all &#8211; it&#8217;s Baby L&#8217;s abstract flower garden &#8212; yea, that&#8217;s it! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Vocabulary:\u00c2\u00a0grass, stem, bloom, flower, leaf, cloud, center, stick, sticky<\/p>\n<p>-\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tot Basket:\u00c2\u00a0 Imaginary Play Garden.\u00c2\u00a0I used the bottom of an egg carton, turned it upside down and painted it brown and then cut an X in each of the cup bottoms so we could push seeds\u00c2\u00a0through\u00c2\u00a0(dirt mounds), a\u00c2\u00a0shaggy brown bathroom rug (dirt patch), large lima beans (seeds), empty watering can, artificial flowers\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool72.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1618\" title=\"totschool7\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool72.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"301\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool72.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool72-275x300.jpg 275w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 277px) 100vw, 277px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We placed the beans on each little &#8220;dirt mound&#8221;, pressed them through, pretended to water them, and then stuck silk flowers in the hole as if they had grown.\u00c2\u00a0 She did terrific picking up individual beans and setting them on each little egg cup bottom and using one finger to press the &#8220;seed&#8221; through.\u00c2\u00a0 When the beans got pushed through, she KNEW they were there, and kept trying to get them back out by getting a finger in the hole, but of course couldn&#8217;t reach them.\u00c2\u00a0 I showed her that they were under the egg carton and how to lift and move it to get them out.\u00c2\u00a0 She particularly enjoyed when I&#8217;d\u00c2\u00a0put a bean on each mound, wedged into the X so she could go down the line poking them through.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool34.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1613\" title=\"totschool3\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool34.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool34.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool34-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">She had quite a long attention span for this activity, mostly playing with the beans; she couldn&#8217;t get the stem of the silk flowers into the holes.\u00c2\u00a0 I think she&#8217;d have done better with artificial flowers that had a single bloom instead of the clusters at the top (like a carnation or something).\u00c2\u00a0 The bunches of flowers made it so she couldn&#8217;t see the stem when she was aiming for the holes.\u00c2\u00a0 We also flipped the carton over and put a bean in each cup.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool63.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1616\" title=\"totschool6\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool63.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool63.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool63-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Eventually it &#8220;degenerated&#8221; to playing fill and spill with the beans (a large handful stored in a small gladware container).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On a side note, I think I&#8217;ll save these items, add a straw hat, maybe a piece of old garden hose, some seed packets, a neckerchief, some seed catalogs, index cards and popsicle sticks for making plant markers and set it aside for a gardening &#8220;Prop Box&#8221; for when she is a little older and\u00c2\u00a0interested in dress up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Vocabulary:\u00c2\u00a0Dirt, seed, push, poke, plant, water, sprinkle, flower, grow<\/p>\n<p>-\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sensory Bin: Potting soil, large lima beans for pretend seeds, a couple of plastic pots (technically biodegradable bamboo pots ;)), trowel and small rake.\u00c2\u00a0 Later we added a watering can.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool113.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1646\" title=\"totschool11\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool113.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool113-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00c2\u00a0Although she followed my lead and imitated me with digging, filling the pots, and pretending to plant seeds for a short time, it didn&#8217;t take long before all she was doing was throwing the dirt all over the place.\u00c2\u00a0 I tried to re-interest her in confining everything to the tub with a couple of watering cans for sprinkling our seeds and making some mud to squish around in\u00c2\u00a0(potting soil really doesn&#8217;t make satisfying muddy messes, at least ours didn&#8217;t.\u00c2\u00a0 Too much of non dirt stuff in it, I guess for lightening up the soil or whatever), but it didn&#8217;t really convince her to stop throwing dirt everywhere.\u00c2\u00a0 After a short time and a half empty bin, we moved to the water table to get rid of the worst dirt, then headed in for a bath \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0Vocabulary:\u00c2\u00a0dirt, soil, dig, trowel, shovel, rake, seeds, plant,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00c2\u00a0-\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Others:\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Melissa-Doug-Deluxe-Fill-Spill\/dp\/B000NV6BZY\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=toys-and-games&amp;qid=1282960409&amp;sr=1-1\">Fill and Spill Bugs<\/a>, an old Mommy and Me Flower Puppet, \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Wee-Gallery-wg104-Art-Cards\/dp\/B000P5UGJU\/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&amp;s=toys-and-games&amp;qid=1283053087&amp;sr=8-5\">Art Cards &#8211; Garden<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We played with them individually mostly, but I did try a new activity for us with the fill and spill bugs and the art cards and a few other 3D objects that I had around the house (which matched the cards).
