{"id":1439,"date":"2010-08-15T06:10:18","date_gmt":"2010-08-15T13:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=1439"},"modified":"2010-08-22T13:48:17","modified_gmt":"2010-08-22T20:48:17","slug":"tot-school-89-81510","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=1439","title":{"rendered":"Tot School 8\/9 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 8\/15\/10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00c2\u00a0This week I am focusing on the &#8220;buh&#8221; sound (which is one of the first 6 sounds that children usually vocalize) with Baby L, so I&#8217;ve picked activities that will afford me lots of opportunities to\u00c2\u00a0use B words.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Baby L is 14.5 months<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.1plus1plus1equals1.com\/TotSchool.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/i131.photobucket.com\/albums\/p316\/carisahinson\/Tot-School.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Tot School\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Contact Paper Collage.\u00c2\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=1413\">first one we tried a couple weeks ago <\/a>was such\u00c2\u00a0a success that I decided to do another one with her.\u00c2\u00a0Like last time, I created a cardstock paper frame for the contact paper to keep it from curling and to make it easier to move around.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0094.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1450\" title=\"009\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0094.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0094.jpg 640w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0094-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I gathered a bunch of blue papers, pictures and objects.\u00c2\u00a0 To make a more interesting tactile experience, I included things other than paper this time,\u00c2\u00a0like feathers, rhinestones, etc. The baby was pushing buttons on my camera to entertain herself yesterday and apparently changed the picture quality, which I didn&#8217;t notice, so these photos are all pretty small.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0122.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1448\" title=\"012\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0122.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0122.jpg 640w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0122-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>She discovered pretty quickly that (unlike the last one, which was mostly tissue paper and was stuck for good once she put it down) she could re-position objects.\u00c2\u00a0 I just let her choose what she wanted from the pile, and place it wherever she wanted and move it at will, and just narrated what ever she was doing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0142.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1449\" title=\"014\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0142.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"410\" height=\"307\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0142.jpg 640w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0142-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When she lost interest and it was looking pretty full, I covered it with a second piece of clear contact paper to seal it.\u00c2\u00a0 I hung her art\u00c2\u00a0at toddler eye level on the glass door in the family room.\u00c2\u00a0 Her finished work remained on display on the door for about 20 seconds before she pulled it down. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Vocabulary: Picture, Sticky, Blue, B, names of the pictured items<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Basket of shaker bottles.\u00c2\u00a0 I filled recycled plastic water bottles with a variety of dry materials.\u00c2\u00a0 Baby L helped with the rice, using a funnel.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1464  aligncenter\" title=\"totschool5\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool5-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool5-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool5.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We ended up with bottles filled with marbles, rice, metal bits, pom poms, glass gem vase filler things, and left one empty for comparison. I sealed (lets&#8217;s hope!)\u00c2\u00a0the lids\u00c2\u00a0with glue before we played with them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1466  aligncenter\" title=\"totschool7\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool7.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool7-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Baby L enjoyed shaking the bottles to hear the different sounds.\u00c2\u00a0 The more full ones took more effort to get noise out of them (had to turn them further) and she got so proud when she managed to make\u00c2\u00a0the bottles\u00c2\u00a0dance and sing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1465\" title=\"totschool6\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool6.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool6-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool7.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Her favorite way was by &#8220;drinking&#8221; from the bottles and getting the filler to rush down at her face.\u00c2\u00a0 LOL<\/p>\n<p>Vocabulary: Bottle, shake,\u00c2\u00a0music, loud, soft, noisy, quiet, empty<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>I had meant to do a sensory box with dried beans and some\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/LEARNING-RESOURCES-LER0725-FAMILY-SET-80\/dp\/B000QDTWW8\/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&amp;s=toys-and-games&amp;qid=1281283504&amp;sr=8-16\">Three Bear Family Counters&#8221;<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(I bought them at a local <a href=\"http:\/\/www.learningpalace.com\/\">Learning Palace<\/a>, and\u00c2\u00a0paid about half what they are on Amazon though)\u00c2\u00a0along with our measuring cup scoops.\u00c2\u00a0 I think the counters will be great in the future for comparing sizes and making patterns.\u00c2\u00a0 Anyway, I discovered that I only had one little tiny bag of dried beans, so instead I used some bear shaped pasta that I had picked up for bento.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0730.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1477\" title=\"IMG_0730\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0730.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0730.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0730-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I gave her two plastic containers and a scoop on a sheet pan and showed her how to scoop and transfer from one bowl to the other.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0732.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1478\" title=\"IMG_0732\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0732.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0732.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0732-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is by far my favorite picture of the week =)<\/p>\n<p>Vocabulary:\u00c2\u00a0 Bear,\u00c2\u00a0Bowl, Dig, Pour, Scoop<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Alphabet Letters.\u00c2\u00a0 I picked up a tub of large magnetic letters at Learning Palace and set them up in a basket along with a small magnetic wipe board.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool11.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1456\" title=\"totschool1\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool11.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool11-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We started with just the two B&#8217;s, but she wanted to dig into the bucket.\u00c2\u00a0 I just let her stick them on and pull them off, making the letter sound for each one that she picked up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool31.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1458\" title=\"totschool3\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool31.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool31.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/totschool31-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I spelled out her name for her and gave her the final &#8220;L&#8221; to put in a row, but as you can see she didn&#8217;t get the lining up of the letters and just put it where she liked it instead \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Vocabulary: letters, alphabet, letter names &amp; sounds, stick, lift<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>We also spent some extra times playing will balls.\u00c2\u00a0 She likes the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toysrus.com\/product\/index.jsp?productId=3588026&amp;CAWELAID=385192071\">o-balls<\/a> as well as the holey wiffle ball style colorful balls I picked up from Gymboree a few years back.\u00c2\u00a0 A lot easier for her to grip and manipulate, I guess.\u00c2\u00a0 I hung some of them on a piece of yarn and strung them between 2 offset door handles and showed her how to move them to the high side and let them slide down.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She moved them back and forth for a while, and then started to get frustrated that she couldn&#8217;t get them off.\u00c2\u00a0 I had to go track down a couple more balls to give to her to play with on the floor. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0716.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1476\" title=\"IMG_0716\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0716.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0716.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0716-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As normal for the summer, we spend some time outside every day.\u00c2\u00a0 In keeping with reinforcing the &#8220;buh&#8221;
