{"id":1073,"date":"2009-11-18T10:01:39","date_gmt":"2009-11-18T17:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=1073"},"modified":"2009-11-18T10:02:04","modified_gmt":"2009-11-18T17:02:04","slug":"fnccc-danny-boome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/?p=1073","title":{"rendered":"FNCCC &#8211; Danny Boome"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/FNCCC.jpg\"><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0Week 12 &#8211; Danny Boome<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/iblamemom.blogspot.com\/search\/label\/FN%20chefs%20cooking%20challenge\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"FNCCC\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/FNCCC.jpg\" alt=\"FNCCC\" width=\"156\" height=\"105\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;\">This week\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s chef for the Food Network Chef Cooking Challenge is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/danny-boome\/index.html\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"mso-ansi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri;\">Danny Boome<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Never heard of him!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I checked out his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/danny-boome\/recipes\/index.html\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"mso-ansi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri;\">food network recipes<\/span><\/strong><\/a> as well as his <a href=\"http:\/\/uktv.co.uk\/food\/chef\/aid\/530734\/\"><strong style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"mso-ansi-font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri;\">recipes<\/span><\/strong><\/a> from his UK show.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I was just uninspired.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d wanted to a beef recipe to use up some of the meat in the big freezer, but his beef selections (either on food network or on his UK show) were very limited &#8212; mostly to whole roasts \/ tenderloins.\u00c2\u00a0 I finally picked a simple roasted vegetable dish.<\/span>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Roasted Carrots and Parsnips with Thyme<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">1 pound carrots<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">1 pound parsnips<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">2 tablespoons honey<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">6 sprigs fresh thyme<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Peel the carrots and parsnips and cut them in half lengthwise, larger ones can be quartered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0022.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1074\" title=\"002\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0022.JPG\" alt=\"002\" width=\"336\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0022.JPG 800w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0022-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Place them on a large rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle the carrots and parsnips with the olive oil and honey. Season with salt and pepper and toss to coat. Scatter the thyme sprigs on top.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/004.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1076\" title=\"004\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/004.JPG\" alt=\"004\" width=\"336\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/004.JPG 800w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/004-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">Place them in the preheated oven. <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/span>After 10 minutes, give the veggies a toss and put back in the oven for another 10 minutes until the vegetables are soft and slightly caramelized. Serve warm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"text-align: center; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0061.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1078\" title=\"006\" src=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0061.JPG\" alt=\"006\" width=\"336\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0061.JPG 800w, https:\/\/pcgirl.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/0061-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">I cut my parsnips into 1\/8\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s instead of the halves or quarters suggested because they were really fat and I wanted them the same size as the carrots.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>It took slightly longer than the 20 minutes listed here to get them cooked, even cut down to size.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>An extra 5-8 minutes and they were soft as I like them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">What we thought?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Too sweet.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Carrots and parsnips are already very sweet vegetables.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Roasting brings that out more.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Add in the honey and I thought they were almost cloyingly sweet.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>Yuck. <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\">I thought that would make them successful with the kidlet.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span>He said he liked them when I asked but when I said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153should I make them again?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he quickly said No thanks!
